Yep, Russell is right on. 10mm and my schallers fit perfectly without any reaming.
Steve Sorry.

What I meant was get a bit cross with them, I have only had a problem with one set of the gold and on that occasion grover sent me a whole new set without asking for a return.

Maybe because of the distance involved.
Russell, absolutely no apology necessary. I simply had never heard the expression before and was intrigued.

Thanks for the explanation! I'm hampered by my public school education and the fact that I speak only one language, American.
If you want a light weight closed tuner, Sperzel Solid Pro tuners (my
standard for solid headstocks) weigh one gram apiece more than a Waverly.
All aluminum housing and buttons save weight over the cast housings and
buttons of other brands. Never had a bad one; performance is comparable
to Schaller, etc. Lots of choices re buttons and colors, and a big discount if
you buy 10 sets at a time direct from the factory in OEM packaging.
Interesting...I've only ever seen Sprezel's two locking varieties (classic trim lock, and their open-backed, through the post sound lock machines). Have you got pictures/details on where to buy these, retail and direct? Googling's not turning up much of anything useful.

The "6+" price takes about 30-40% off the price. That's pretty well the same discount we get on other wholesale peices, right?

A bargain, I tell ya...

Sperzel contact information can, surprisingly enough, be found at
sperzel.com. This is one of the worst web pages you will ever see; an
example of all that can go wrong when you hire a web designer who wants
to show off some slick techniques rather than build a useable site. They
didn't even put the right words in for Google to find the site.   A much
better site for explaining the different Sperzel options is http://
www.tkinstruments.com/id75.htm

Single sets of the Solid Pro's (but not all the 100's of options) are available at

Mario,
Am I missing something on the Waverlies? I agree with you on the quality and the value as you have previously posted. I can't find them for a 30-40% discount even ordering 6+. The catalog discount is 14-16% for 6+. Do they have other prices not quoted in the catalog?

James, I guess you're right, it is less than I thought. I keep hearing of them costing 150 or more, and I know I'm paying closer to 100, so I did the math real quick-like <bg> But you're right; 139 to 119 is about 15%..

Shows how much attention I pay to the pricing. I need them, I buy them, and that's the end of that. Whatever they cost, they cost.

Waverly also bumps the price up $40 for gold. That's more than anyone else
charges for gold (which I like to use). Seems steep, but as Mario says . . .

I'll drop my $.02 in here...

Tuners is the one place that I just don't simply think it's wise to price shop on, besides the frets and fretboard there is no other piece of the guitar that is used as much. I realize that Waverly's cost more but for me it's piece of mind in knowing that I never have to worry about that part of the guitar, I've not had one single problem with any set of waverly's that I have used, at this point I will never switch simply because it's something I can rely on..

Cheers

Mattia,

I have been slow on updates to my website, but one of the new items is Sperzel Tuners. They do have a variety but they don't carry "traditional" classical tuners or tuners for slot head guitars. Here some pictures of some of their items and the sets that I have presently in stock.

These are the packaged sets:

These are the Chrome Pro's:

Here they are in Black:

Here they are in Satin Chrome:

And these are my favourites, open back satin chromes!

One last picture includes their non-traditional classical tuner (on the right):

Another neat thing about Sperzel's is that they make them with graduated posts keeping the brake angle over the nut better (higher post near the nut and then shorter as you move away from the nut).

The price for these sets is $56.00 (remember OLF'ers get 10% off). Satin Gold and Gold plated would be an additional $6.00 and locking sets would be an additional $12 more. I don't have a price for the classical tuner but I can get one quickly for those interested. They also make a "drop D tuner" and I can get prices for those aslo if some one is interested.

These are US made and very nice. I just weighed them compared to a set of Schaller's I have and the Sperzel's are about 3 oz lighter per set.

I have never ordered more than a couple of sets of the Waverlies at one time so the discount has not been an issue. Most of the time people request the Waverlies anyway, and like you said, you need them, you order them. I have finished all my tuner shopping. I like the open back vintage look and have given up on everything but Waverlies and Gotohs. I continue to keep the open back Gotohs on hand because I really like the looks and the function. At 50% off list they are a great value. If I ever have a problem with even one set, I will be down to just the Waverlies.
As you have previously stated, the cost of the tuners is very small when you spread it over the life of a guitar.
